What is ԫ?
It is a historical single-letter spelling for the sound in “jam.” Called dzzhe, ԫ represents /d͡ʒ/. Its written form combines Д and Ж.
The letter appears in Andreas Johan Sjögren’s Ossetian alphabet from 1844 and in Pavel Savvaitov’s 1850 Komi grammar. These attestations show the form used in more than one spelling tradition.
The Ossetian alphabet containing it was replaced after 1924, when Ossetian writing shifted to Latin. Modern Komi spells the corresponding sound дж. Read ԫ according to the historical spelling around it; it is not a standalone chat expression.
Why does ԫ look different in different fonts?
Unicode identifies the letter but does not require one exact drawing. Fonts can change its proportions and joins while displaying the same character.
In 2018, a reported Noto font issue showed ԫ resembling дк. If it looks like the wrong pair, check the underlying character or view it in another font before changing the text.
Historical and specialist: ԫ appears in older Komi and Ossetian spelling, archival reproductions, and linguistic citations.
For modern Komi, use дж; reserve ԫ for historical spelling.

дк A font may make ԫ resemble this pair. The historical design combines Д and Ж, so the resemblance can be a rendering issue.
Questions people ask
1Why does ԫ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
