A Unicode proposal reproduces a 1906 Abkhaz alphabet with a descender form and a 1912 Gospel sample with this middle-hook form. These examples document two spellings in Abkhaz writing at different dates.
The hook and descender forms are connected but not interchangeable. Keep ҧ when quoting a source that uses it; for newer Abkhaz spelling, follow the form your source uses.
