What 𓍀 means
It marks quantities in practical records. The heqat was used especially with grain, so this sign belongs to measurement and accounting.
The heqat measure is documented in Old and Middle Kingdom practice. This exact finger-topped U12 form is attested at least in an Eighteenth-Dynasty tomb. In New Kingdom records, capacity measures also covered honey, resin, and gold dust.
U12 is composite: the grain-measure sign U9 is topped by the finger sign D50. The crook-topped U11 is another spelling of the heqat word.
Technical and historical: it belongs to Egyptian measurement notation.
It names a specific capacity unit, so it is a poor stand-in for Egypt in general.
