What ⴔ means
Use a Unicode character picker by name or code point. This is a text letter, so ordinary emoji search is not the right input route.
If it appears as a box or fallback glyph, switch to a font with Nuskhuri coverage. The character stays the same; only its displayed outline depends on the font.
Why does ⴔ look unlike modern Georgian?
Because ⴔ is the Nuskhuri form of the Georgian letter Phar.
Phar represents a voiceless p pronounced with a small burst of breath. Nuskhuri developed gradually from Asomtavruli as scribes adapted Georgian writing for faster manuscript work. The oldest known Nuskhuri inscription is the Sinai Homiliary, a collection of religious readings dated 864 AD.
Khutsuri is the older system that paired Nuskhuri's small letters with Asomtavruli capitals. A Georgian National Archives record describes 10th-11th-century hymns rewritten in calligraphic Nuskhuri, with headings, initials, and neumes (musical marks) in cinnabar, a red pigment. Mkhedruli later became standard for modern Georgian, so ⴔ marks a historical, chiefly ecclesiastical script choice.
Nuskhuri marks a historical, chiefly ecclesiastical register; modern everyday Georgian uses Mkhedruli.
Use Mkhedruli ფ for ordinary modern Georgian text.
