What 𐚓 means
A359 labels 𐚓; no standard reading is listed as of 2026-10-08. A 2024 study places the earliest secure examples of Linear A in Middle Minoan IIA, an early phase of the Minoan Bronze Age; that dates the script’s surviving record, not this individual sign.
Surviving Linear A texts include palace accounts tracking goods, receipts, and sealings, as well as inscriptions understood to be largely religious. The script appears chiefly on Crete, with finds elsewhere in the Aegean.
What does it mean if someone sends 𐚓?
Read it as a Linear A reference or styling; context matters. Linear A and Cretan Hieroglyphic, another writing system used on Crete, overlapped during the first half of the second millennium BCE; much of Linear A’s sign repertoire was adapted from Cretan Hieroglyphic. Linear B reused many Linear A sign shapes. These links describe scripts, not an individual reading for A359.
A specialist who studies inscriptions can use A359 as an inventory handle; in a casual message, someone without Linear A context may see only an unfamiliar ancient sign. If you use it, name the script in nearby text rather than assigning a guessed word.
Scholarly or historical; outside a discussion of ancient writing, it can read as an unexplained rare glyph.
A confident English gloss would claim more than this sign tells us.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐚓 show as a box?
The font may lack the glyph. A font with Linear A coverage can display it; the box is a fallback, not another sign.
