What 𐛃 means

No secure meaning or pronunciation is established for A523.

Modern specialist catalogues describe the form as a composite of entries AB37 and AB08. This is an analysis of how the written sign is built; it does not provide a reading.

The earliest Cretan writing, at the end of the third or beginning of the second millennium BCE, is debated: it may be early Linear A, Cretan Hieroglyphic (another Cretan script), or reflect an older writing tradition. Securely identified Linear A is attested in the 18th–14th centuries BCE. Most surviving examples are records of goods and personnel; offering tables and objects used in worship or burial show it also in ritual settings.

Why does it appear as a box?

A font without Linear A coverage is a likely cause.

Unicode identifies the character; a font supplies its drawing. Without Linear A coverage, software may show a missing-glyph box, a blank space, or a fallback mark. The character’s identity stays the same even when its display changes.

How is Linear A related to Linear B?

Linear B inherited much of Linear A’s sign repertoire.

Linear B was used to write early Greek, but that does not decode A523. Linear A’s underlying language is still unknown, so a Linear B sign value cannot be presented as A523’s reading.

Best suited to discussions of Minoan inscriptions, sign catalogues, and digital typography.

Do not give it a definite Minoan word or borrow a Linear B syllable for it.

Why does 𐛃 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
