What 𐝉 means
It belongs with quantities, not signs read as syllables.
Linear A uses signs for syllables, objects, and numbers; L2 is a fraction sign placed with an amount rather than read aloud.
When did Linear A begin, and what was it for?
Its earliest records come from palace-period Crete.
Linear A is first attested at Phaistos, a palace site on Crete, in the First Palace period (19th–18th centuries BC); it later appears across Crete and the Aegean. Surviving texts mainly record administration. That dates the script, not the first appearance of 𐝉.
A 2022 study connects Linear A’s development with Cretan Hieroglyphic, an earlier Cretan script; it does not identify an ancestor for 𐝉 itself. A 2021 computational model proposes 1/20 as the L2 value, but that figure is inferred rather than securely decoded.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐝉 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
