On macOS, use Character Viewer; Unicode Hex Input cannot enter values above four hexadecimal digits. As of 2026-10-08, Unicode lists no built-in hexadecimal method for iOS or Android, though third-party keyboards may provide one.
What does the Lycian letter D mean?
It is a letter used to spell Lycian words. 𐊅 contributes to a word's spelling; the surrounding letters and context carry the word's meaning.
Lycian was an ancient language of Lycia, a region in what is now southwestern Turkey. Its alphabet was adapted from Greek, probably through contact with Rhodes. Its surviving record runs from around 500 BCE to about 200 BCE. Most examples are on tombs and monuments, but Lycian also appears on coins and a few public or religious objects; inscriptions name people, tombs, buildings, dedications, decrees, and burial duties. Monuments at Xanthos also record architecture, military activity, and religion.
Bilingual inscriptions show that Lycian and Greek could serve different audiences or status roles. At Karmylessos, Lycian seems to carry the conventional text while Greek adds prestige; at Limyra, Greek closely translates Lycian; at Korydalla, the layout gives Greek visual prominence. Families could preserve Lycian, adopt Greek, or use both as the surviving corpus shifted toward Greek.
Scholarly and historical; alone in casual chat, 𐊅 reads like a transcription sample or font check.
Do not substitute Greek Δ: a similar appearance and related scripts do not make them the same character.
