What 𐤤 means
It is the letter e in the Lydian alphabet. Lydian was an ancient language of western Anatolia, written with its own alphabet. Inscriptions and coins attest the language from the end of the eighth or beginning of the seventh century BCE through the third century BCE; longer surviving inscriptions date to the fifth and fourth centuries BCE.
Evidence includes coin legends, graffiti, and inscriptions, many found in or near Sardis. Longer texts are mostly tomb or legal inscriptions, with some verse. Read 𐤤 as part of Lydian writing.
What is 𐤤 related to?
The Lydian alphabet was probably adapted from East Greek writing. Lydian, Lycian, and Carian are distinct alphabets from ancient Anatolia with a broader connection to Greek.
The exact path of that connection is uncertain, so the script-level link does not establish a one-to-one Greek counterpart for 𐤤.
Why does 𐤤 display strangely?
Lydian usually runs right to left; font support affects whether it appears at all. A few Lydian texts run left to right, and one switches direction from line to line. Spaces usually separate words; rare texts run words together or use dots instead.
Microsoft's font list, checked on 2026-09-14, includes Lydian in Segoe UI Historic. Apps may still fail to render non-system fonts correctly; a box indicates a font or app display gap, not a different character.
Historical and scholarly; use it within Lydian writing, not as a generic decorative E.
Latin E is a different character; do not substitute it in Lydian text.

The font or app cannot render it. A character can be encoded and still lack glyph support; use a font and app that support Lydian.
