What 𐫁 means

It is Beth, a letter in Manichaean writing.

Manichaean writing grew from Syriac Estrangelo, a style of Syriac writing, and Palmyrene Aramaic. Its surviving Central Asian evidence is especially associated with medieval Turfan manuscripts.

Manichaeism was a missionary religion, and its script carried religious teaching across languages. It also served Middle Persian, Parthian, Sogdian, Bactrian, Early New Persian and Uyghur texts. The reading of Beth belongs to the word and language around it.

Why does 𐫁 change shape inside a word?

Manichaean letters join, so Beth’s form can change with its position.

A font may draw Beth differently when it stands alone, starts a word, sits in the middle or ends it. These are its isolated, initial, medial and final forms.

Under current Unicode shaping rules, Manichaean text runs right to left and uses contextual forms. A font or text system without that support may show the letter detached or as a missing glyph.

Manichaean writing shares some conventions with Mandaean writing. That connection does not make the two scripts interchangeable.

What does it mean when someone sends 𐫁 alone?

Read it as a script sample or historical reference.

A message containing it may point to Manichaean writing, an ancient script, or a font test; the letter itself has no standard chat tone.

Outside a script or history conversation, its unfamiliar form may leave the recipient unsure what was meant. Add a plain-language label when the message needs immediate clarity.

Specialist and historical; in a message it signals interest in writing more than emotion.

A lone send may not be recognized; label it when the reader needs a clear interpretation.

1

Why does 𐫁 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
