Meroitic Cursive Number Six Hundred

𐧗 is the Meroitic 600 sign: a Kushite numeral for six hundred. Meroitic numerals recorded quantities, measurements and dates. Use it in historical or scholarly writing, not for everyday number writing.

What 𐧗 means

About 200 BC is the earliest dated Meroitic cursive text.

Meroitic cursive, used in the Kushite kingdom centered on Meroë, emerged by the 3rd century BC. Its forms drew partly on Egyptian Demotic, and cursive texts include documents, funerary writing and royal records. That date belongs to the script, not a securely dated first use of this number sign.

What did 𐧗 do in Meroitic texts?

It marked 600 in a decimal, additive system.

Meroitic numerals served for quantities, measuring, tax records and year-dates. They use separate signs for units and larger ranks, whose values are added to make a total; 𐧗 names a value rather than acting like a modern digit whose value comes from its position. Meroitic also had a hieroglyphic script for formal inscriptions. After the fourth century, Nubian and then Coptic displaced Meroitic writing.

It can. A font without Meroitic Cursive coverage may show a missing-glyph box; the character itself is not damaged.
