What 𐧜 means
It means two thousand in Meroitic Cursive.
The Meroitic script grew under Egyptian Demotic influence as Kush developed a way to write its own language. The earliest dated cursive text is around 200 BCE; less-evolved inscriptions suggest the cursive form was taking shape by the third century BCE.
Meroitic numbers appear in cursive writing used for accounts, labels on funerary objects, offering tables, and royal or funerary inscriptions. The lines run right to left. A written pottery shard from Qasr Ibrim, REM 2112, helped scholars understand how values of 100 and above were formed with rank signs and multiplier marks; 𐧜 is the system's sign for two thousand.
Is this an Egyptian numeral or a Meroitic one?
Meroitic: shaped by Egyptian influence, but distinct.
Cursive Meroitic drew in part on Egyptian Demotic, a handwritten Egyptian script, and served practical writing. Its hieroglyphic counterpart drew on Egyptian hieroglyphs and appeared on royal monuments and in temples. Both forms wrote the Meroitic language, but they were distinct; 𐧜 belongs to the cursive tradition.
Meroitic writing was later replaced in the region by Nubian writing. The Coptic-based alphabet used for Nubian included three signs adopted from Meroitic cursive.
Historical and scholarly; it belongs in Meroitic context, not ordinary number writing.
Without Meroitic context, it can look like an unknown character rather than an ordinary 2000.
