negative squared ic

Negative Squared IC

🆋 labels a highway interchange or ramp in Japan’s ARIB symbol set. It is text, not emoji, so fonts control its appearance.

What 🆋 means

It marks a highway interchange or ramp.

Japan’s ARIB STD-B24 digital-broadcast standard includes it among highway symbols; expressway signs use IC for interchanges.

A 2008 Unicode proposal mapped ARIB symbol 9134 to “interchange or ramp.”

What does 🆋 mean in a message?

In route messages, read it as a road marker.

In English chat, plain IC can abbreviate “I see” (“I understand”); without route context, check the sender’s meaning.

Why does 🆋 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
