What 𐌅 means
A brief glide into the next vowel, like English w.
It appears in Etruscan words and in an Etruscan-based form of Oscan, another ancient Italian language.
How did 𐌅 enter Italic alphabets?
Etruscan writers adapted a Greek letter for their language.
The Greek letter digamma Ϝ was also a w-letter; 𐌅 is its Old Italic counterpart. The earliest known Etruscan alphabet row appears on an ivory writing tablet from Marsiliana, around 650 BCE. Etruscan-based Umbrian used 𐌅 for the sound; Latin-based Umbrian used Latin V for both w and u (first half of the 2nd century BCE to first half of the 1st century BCE). Unicode groups related Old Italic forms under this character, so fonts may draw language-specific shapes.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐌅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
