What 𐾈 means
It separates shorter units in Old Uyghur writing.
In Old Uyghur punctuation, 𐾈 marks a shorter boundary and its companion 𐾉 marks longer sections. In religious, literary, and administrative writing, the pair distinguishes small breaks from larger divisions.
Why can the same dots read differently?
The passage and page layout can narrow their meaning.
Old Uyghur writing developed from cursive Sogdian in the 8th–9th centuries. Its punctuation shares forms and functions with marks in Middle Iranian Manichaean texts; Old Uyghur writing later became an ancestor of Mongolian writing.
A 2025 study of a Buddhist manuscript describes two dots marking Chinese source text omitted from a quotation. In traditional vertical layout, the mark can appear rotated in a horizontal reproduction. The orientation changes with the layout, not the character.
Historical and scholarly; in a modern text, it points to an Old Uyghur context.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐾈 show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 14.0 (2021), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
