It identifies a specific speaker-channel layout.
The 7.1 mark was among additions proposed in 2015 for the Japanese TV-guide symbols of ARIB, Japan's Association of Radio Industries and Businesses. These symbols identify program features in electronic guides across televisions, computers, and mobile devices. The additions were intended for ARIB STD-B62, Japan's standard for next-generation digital broadcasting; earlier ARIB TV-guide symbols were standardized in 2009.
Technical and specialized: it belongs in audio, broadcast, and TV-program metadata more than casual chat.
Outside a TV or audio conversation, its 7.1 meaning may not be recognized.

Questions people ask
1Why does 🆡 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
