What means
is Todhri’s PSA letter, corresponding to Greek psi (ψ). The two are separate characters in different scripts.
Todhri was an alphabet for writing Albanian around Elbasan. Manuscripts include biblical copybooks, church texts, and merchants’ daybooks and letters.
Who created the Todhri alphabet?
Its creation is attributed to Theodor Haxhifilipi, but not conclusively. He was an Albanian teacher nicknamed Dhaskal Todhri (“Teacher Todhri”). A competing proposal credits Gregory of Durrës, who may have created the script at Voskopojë, where Haxhifilipi studied. The earliest reported dated text is a family notebook from 1 January 1780; a merchant daybook begins on 10 August 1795 and continues through 1797.
Johann Georg von Hahn published examples in 1854, presenting Todhri as the “original” Albanian alphabet. Later scholars connected most letterforms with Roman and Greek cursive handwriting, where letters flow together. A report on a 1900 visit said the script was dying out as the Kristoforidhi and Frashëri alphabets displaced it; a few merchants still used it, and church hymns remained.
How do I type or display ?
A substitute box usually means the font lacks a Todhri glyph. Unicode still identifies when a font cannot draw it. Hexadecimal input is a fallback when the editor supports it.
Historical and specialist: a Todhri-script character for reading, transcription, or font support.
Its Greek psi correspondence does not make it a replacement for ψ in Greek text.
