What 𐄝 means
It is the sign for 500.
Each sign had a fixed value; grouped signs made totals, so position did not change a digit's value.
Where does the Aegean numeral 500 come from?
Aegean whole-number signs derive from Linear A.
Linear A, a Cretan script for an undeciphered language, was used from approximately 1700–1450 BCE. It may be related to Cretan Hieroglyphic, another Cretan script. Its numerals also appear in Linear B, used for Mycenaean Greek. Cypriot writing seems to share the lower values; the link is uncertain.
Historical specialist use; write 500 in ordinary text.
If 𐄝 shows as a box, a font without Aegean Numbers coverage cannot display it. For ordinary writing, use 500.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐄝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
