What ➕ means
It adds something or joins things together. Between words or names, read the plus emoji as “and,” not as an equation: you ➕ me. In a list, it flags an extra item or option.
What if someone sends ➕ alone?
It can mean “add me” or “add that.” After an invitation or a suggested extra, either reading may fit. If you're booking seats or spending money, ask which they mean.
Neutral in lists; a lone ➕ can feel brisk rather than warm.
Don't treat ➕ alone as firm confirmation.

2Worth knowing
- The ordinary plus sign behind ➕ first appeared in print in a German arithmetic book from 1489, where + and − marked surplus and deficit rather than modern addition.
- One proposed origin, not settled, links the plus sign to a medieval scribes' shorthand for Latin et, “and”: a neat fit with reading ➕ as “and” in messages.
