What ⥅ means
The surrounding notation defines what the plus contributes. ⥅ is a rightward arrow with a plus below, but its shape alone does not tell you which relation or operation an author intends.
The W3C (World Wide Web Consortium, a web standards organization) lists rarrpl as “right arrow, plus” in its 1998 MathML tables; MathML is a web format for mathematical notation. ISO/IEC 9573-13's 2003 markup entity table records the same character label. A character entity is a named text reference for a character. These records trace mathematical markup and character encoding; each formula still needs to establish the arrow's role.
Why might ⥅ appear as a box?
The font may not contain this glyph. When it lacks ⥅, you may see a box or fallback character; that display does not change the text's character.
Questions people ask
1Why does ⥅ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
