light greek cross

Light Greek Cross

35/90

Use a Unicode escape to enter 🞢; HTML, JavaScript, and JSON each accept a different form. It is a text character: your selected font draws its equal-armed cross. Its old “cross 2” label comes from Wingdings 2, a font-based source.

What 🞢 means

Use the escape your format accepts.

HTML accepts 🞢; JavaScript accepts \u{1F7A2}, while a JSON string uses the UTF-16 pair \uD83D\uDFA2. The old Wingdings 2 label “cross 2” describes its font-based source.

What does 🞢 mean?

It is a typographic equal-armed cross; context supplies any religious meaning.

“Greek cross” describes the equal-arm shape; it does not name a country or guarantee a religious reading. A 2014 Unicode proposal grouped the Greek-cross family with Christianity, but the shape alone cannot tell you what a sender means.

A 2011 Unicode proposal identified this glyph as “cross 2” in Wingdings 2 and described the broader Wingdings and Webdings sets. Those fonts put symbols in ordinary character positions, so text could show the wrong glyph without the matching font. A separate Unicode character made the cross portable and searchable.

What does it mean when someone sends 🞢?

Treat it as a design mark unless the message points to faith.

Beside explicit religious wording, a Christian-cross reading fits. On its own, the cross does not establish the sender’s belief.

A deliberate typographic mark; explicit religious context can give it a Christian reading.

A cross sent alone can still be read as Christian.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 🞢 look different on my device?

It depends on the font. The selected text font draws the character and controls its stroke; a font without it may show a missing-glyph box.
