What ╠ means
Its vertical border has two strokes, and the horizontal arm points right. At a text table's left edge, it marks where a divider meets the side; other box-drawing characters complete the frame.
These lines come from the larger box-drawing family, which grew out of fixed-width text interfaces. Related line-drawing sets were in use before 1990: character cells let older terminals and computers build menus, forms, and tables from text instead of pixels. Unicode kept the family for compatibility with IBM PC Code Page 437, a character set used on early IBM PCs; terminal graphics sets; China's GB 2312 and Korea's KS X 1001 character sets; and Videotex mosaic-drawing standards, part of that history by 1988.
Why does ╠ look broken?
Font fallback can leave gaps between ╠ and neighboring strokes. A monospaced font with consistent cell widths keeps box-drawing strokes aligned; a proportional font, a fallback glyph, or a layout engine that measures cells differently can make lines miss each other.
Treat the character as one cell in a grid. Switching a neighbor from a double to a light or heavy line changes the frame's visual grammar.

4Questions people ask
1Can I use ╠ in a normal paragraph?
Yes, if you intend a diagram-like mark; in running prose it can look out of place. It works best with neighboring box-drawing lines that form a table, panel, tree, or terminal frame.
