What ⍫ means
You can use the function without seeing how it works.
A function is a named set of instructions that performs a task. In traditional APL notation, , called del, marks the beginning and end of a function definition. The protected form ⍫ is associated with locking that definition while leaving the function available to run. The exact locking procedure depends on the APL system.
This lets someone provide a working function while keeping its source code—the written instructions—out of view. The 1968 APL/360 manual describes protection for proprietary functions and teaching uses. Typing ⍫ in an ordinary document does not protect the document.
