What 𞹬 means
It preserves a distinct mathematical letter style.
Meem (م) is the Arabic letter behind 𞹬. Arabic mathematical notation uses forms such as isolated, initial, tailed, stretched, looped and double-struck; the formula gives this letter-like symbol its particular role.
The tradition predates computer text: Azzeddine Lazrek's Unicode proposal from 2005 documents Arabic mathematical symbols in inscriptions, manuscripts, handbooks and print, and points to the 1987 Amman convention on scientific symbols. The same tradition appears in Arabic- and Persian-script mathematical writing, whose formulas can run right to left. Practice varies: a chapter published in 2017 describes Algerian schools shifting formulas to Latin letters around 2007 while retaining Arabic comments and names. Unicode encodes stretched meem as a separate character because mathematical style can distinguish symbols; a font does not simply widen regular م into this form.
