What ⧸ means
Only when the notation calls for its larger form.
Use ordinary / for everyday text, URLs, and code. The division slash ∕ is a separate mathematical character; mathematical references distinguish it from ⧸ and /. The big slash is not a universal upgrade to ordinary punctuation.
The ordinary slash grew from older punctuation and abbreviation uses before it became common in computing. ⧸ is a specialized mathematical member of that slash family; mathematical references distinguish it from / and ∕ and pair it with the opposite-slanting big reverse solidus ⧹. In LaTeX's unicode-math package, \xsol denotes ⧸ and treats it as a large operator. The command is package-specific.
Why does ⧸ look different in my font?
The font may not support its intended mathematical form.
Font support for slash-like Unicode characters varies. A fallback font can change the stroke's size, angle, weight, or spacing.
If ⧸ disappears, becomes a box, or looks almost like /, check the font and the renderer's fallback. A similar-looking slash may be a different character.
A specialized mark for mathematical notation, usually out of place in everyday prose.
Do not replace ordinary / with ⧸ unless the larger mathematical form is intentional.

1Why does ⧸ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.

A visible symbol can contain several code points. JS .length counts UTF-16 units; UTF-8 counts bytes.
