What 𑀓 means
On a documented Mac layout, K enters 𑀓. K plus ShiftA produces 𑀓𑀸, with the longer a vowel.
Keyboard mappings vary. On other systems, use an input method that supports Brahmi.
What does 𑀓 mean?
It is Brahmi’s ka consonant, with a short a built in. Each Brahmi consonant carries a short a unless a vowel sign changes it, so 𑀓 gives the syllable ka. It contributes a sound to a written word; the letter itself does not supply the word’s meaning.
Pottery fragments inscribed at Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka are among the earliest dated Brahmi examples discussed by archaeologists, from the early fourth century BCE. Ruler Ashoka’s third-century BCE edicts used Brahmi for public messages in Prakrit about Dhamma, a teaching of moral and social conduct. Brahmi later changed with language and region: Tamil-Brahmi added signs for Tamil sounds; northern and southern branches shaped later South Asian scripts, and southern forms influenced scripts in Southeast Asia. These are script descendants, not alternate fonts for 𑀓.
Why does 𑀓 show as a box?
A box usually means the active font lacks Brahmi coverage. Noto Sans Brahmi documentation lists support for Brahmi and notes that complex-text shaping is required; font and app support can affect how vowel signs and joined consonants appear.
A specialist character for reading or entering Brahmi, not a general substitute for the Latin letter k.
By itself, 𑀓 gives the syllable ka; the surrounding Brahmi text supplies its word-level meaning.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𑀓 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
