What ⠀ means
It marks a cell with no raised dots. In braille, the empty cell holds a gap between patterns; digitally, its width can hold apparently empty content.
Braille grew from Charles Barbier's twelve-dot night writing for military communication. Louis Braille reduced it to six dots by 1824 and published his code in 1829. The blank cell began as spacing in tactile text; digitally, it can masquerade as a space without behaving like one.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⠀ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
