Invisible character copy and paste: which one to use
Apps strip or reject ordinary spaces in names and messages because a name made only of spaces looks like an empty field. The trick is to use a character that the software counts as a real letter or symbol but that fonts draw as nothing. The Hangul Filler ㅤ is a Korean letter with no shape, and the Braille Pattern Blank ⠀ is the braille cell with no dots raised; neither is classed as whitespace in Unicode, so the usual "trim the spaces" check leaves them alone.
Start with ㅤ for names: it is wide and accepted in most games. Use ⠀ for empty messages and blank lines, since it reads as a symbol rather than a letter. If a field needs something narrower, try the Halfwidth Hangul Filler ᅠ. Paste the character into a notes app first if you want to see that you actually copied something: the cursor will move, but nothing appears.
Invisible names for Free Fire, Discord and TikTok
For a blank name in Free Fire, PUBG or Mobile Legends, players paste ㅤ alone or two or three in a row (ㅤㅤㅤ) when the game asks for a minimum length. On Discord the same character is used for blank nicknames and for spacer channels and roles; on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook it goes into the display name, since usernames there allow only letters, numbers, dots and underscores.
Platforms tighten their filters from time to time, so no blank character is guaranteed to work forever. If one is refused, try the next: ㅤ, then ⠀, then ᅠ, or put one visible symbol next to the blank, such as ㅤ. or ꧁ㅤ꧂ from our Nickname Symbols. Games that charge for a rename card are worth testing in a chat box first.
Blank text for WhatsApp messages and Instagram bios
WhatsApp, Messenger and most chat apps will not send a message made only of spaces, but they send ⠀ or ㅤ as an empty-looking bubble. Instagram collapses empty lines in bios and captions; putting a single ⠀ on the empty line keeps the gap, which is why it is the usual line-break character for neat bios.
Screen readers may announce blank characters by name or skip them, and some apps show them as an empty box when the font lacks them. A message that looks blank to you can therefore look like a box or be read out as "Hangul filler" for someone else; keep invisible characters out of anything people need to read or search.
Zero-width space, joiners and variation selectors
Some invisible characters take no width at all. The best known are the zero-width space , the zero-width joiner (U200D, the glue inside emoji like ), the zero-width non-joiner , the word joiner and the byte order mark . Those format characters have no page of their own on this site; in HTML you can type them as or , in JavaScript as \u200B. Many apps now strip U200B, which is why the visible-width blanks above are more reliable for names.
The zero-width characters that do have pages are the Combining Grapheme Joiner , the two Khmer inherent vowels (U17B4, U17B5), whose use Unicode discourages, the four Mongolian free variation selectors and the variation selectors VS1–VS14 . VS15 and VS16 are the pair that switch a character between text style and emoji style , and VS17–VS256 continue the set for CJK ideographs. All of them are "default ignorable": software is told to draw nothing if it does not know what to do with them.
Blank-looking symbols and when a space should show
Sometimes the point is to make a space visible. Open Box is the typographer's mark for a space, used in the TeXbook and in many programming guides; Blank Symbol and Symbol for Space come from the Control Pictures block that names the ASCII control codes; Shouldered Open Box marks a no-break space on keyboard layouts. For an "invisible" emoji, Dotted Line Face (Emoji 14.0, 2021) means feeling unseen or wanting to disappear, and Face Without Mouth is the speechless blank stare.
The rare blanks are worth knowing but not worth relying on: Musical Symbol Null Notehead is an empty notehead from the musical symbols block, and the Egyptian Hieroglyph Full Blank and Half Blank (Unicode 15.0, 2022) fill gaps in hieroglyph layouts. Few fonts include them, so on many phones they show as an empty box rather than nothing.

12Worth knowing
- The zero-width space U200B was classed as an ordinary space (Zs) until Unicode 4.0.1, when it was moved to the format characters; that is why many "trim the spaces" functions no longer remove it.
- The Hangul Filler exists because of the Korean standard KS X 1001, where a filler starts an eight-byte sequence that spells out a syllable missing from the precomposed set; with no shape of its own, it became the internet's favourite blank name.
- U2800 is not a trick character in braille: it is the blank cell, the space between words, and it has been in Unicode since version 3.0 in 1999.
- In February 2025 developer Paul Butler showed that a single emoji can carry a hidden message by appending invisible variation selectors after it, and the text survives copy and paste.
- Despite its name, the Combining Grapheme Joiner joins nothing; its job is to stop accents from being reordered or merged when text is normalized.
Questions people ask
7How do I copy and paste an invisible character?
Tap ㅤ (Hangul Filler) or (Braille blank) in the grid above to copy it, then paste it where you need it. It looks like nothing, but the cursor moves, which shows it is there. Paste into a notes app first if you want to check.
How do I make an invisible name in Free Fire?
Copy ㅤ and paste it into the name box, once or several times if the game asks for more characters. If Free Fire says the name is invalid, try or ᅠ, or add one visible symbol next to the blank, and test before using a rename card.
What is the invisible character for Discord?
Most people use the Hangul Filler ㅤ for blank nicknames and spacer channel names. Discord's filters change from time to time; if it is blocked, try or a blank with a dot.
How do I send a blank message on WhatsApp?
WhatsApp will not send only spaces, so copy (Braille Pattern Blank) and send it on its own. It arrives as an empty-looking bubble.
How do I type an invisible character on iPhone?
There is no key for it. Copy ㅤ or from this page, or save it once as a Text Replacement in Settings › General › Keyboard so a short shortcut types it for you.
What is the Hangul Filler U3164?
It is a character from the Hangul Compatibility Jamo block, made for Korean encodings to stand in for a missing part of a syllable. It has no visible shape and counts as a letter, so apps accept it where they reject spaces.
How do I copy and paste a zero width space?
The zero-width space U200B has no page here, but in HTML you can write and in JavaScript \u200B. Many apps strip it, so for names and messages the Hangul Filler or Braille blank work better.
