What 𐋉 means
It is a Carian letter with a disputed sound value. A 2019 reassessment treats 𐋉 as an Egyptian variant of the Carian sign catalogued as Q (𐊨), whose sound scholars represent with Latin l. Earlier readings represented it as Latin ŕ in a personal name. Keeping the forms separately encoded preserves regional spelling.
Carian writing is attested by the 7th century BCE. As of 2022, the oldest known example is an Egyptian Isis figurine bearing Pharaoh Psammetichus I’s name. Many Egyptian texts are tomb inscriptions and graffiti by Carian mercenaries. The Carian script relates to Greek, but its local forms and sound values differ.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐋉 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Carian block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
