What ⷩ means
It marks letters left out of a written abbreviation. Church Slavonic scribes used small letters with a titlo, a mark over an abbreviated word, to show that letters were omitted. A Synodal printed abbreviation uses this En in a phrase meaning “to the Thessalonians.”
A pokrytie is a separate mark placed over a small letter. The broader titlo practice appears in a 10th-century Gospel manuscript. Earlier Church Slavonic writing could use combining letters with or without a pokrytie; Synodal typography pairs this En with one. Alone, ⷩ may look misplaced or incomplete because the surrounding characters and font affect its position.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⷩ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
