What 𒁂 means
Its reading depends on the surrounding cuneiform text.
A lone sign can have several sound or word values, so 𒁂 has no fixed one-word translation by itself. It appears in a Middle Assyrian copy of Ea, a scribal series used for teaching and reference, from Assur, tablet VAT 09541.
That setting explains the tablet’s role, not which everyday word the sign originally named.
What does the 3 in BAG₃ mean?
It separates readings that sound alike.
A cuneiform sign list—a reference guide to signs and their readings—gives this character the readings BAG₃ and BAK₃. It identifies BAG and BAK as homophones: different readings pronounced alike. The subscript 3 distinguishes homophones; it does not count signs.
Why can 𒁂 look different in different fonts?
A different drawing can still represent the same sign.
Cuneiform signs varied by period, region, material, and style—for example, stone inscriptions differ from cursive writing on clay tablets. Fonts choose a representative drawing, so the shape can change while the encoded sign stays the same.
