What 𒂂 means
Usually “heavy”; context settles the reading. In Sumerian, DUGUD writes a word conventionally spelled in Latin letters as dugud, meaning “heavy.” Akkadian lexical lists pair it with kabtu, the Akkadian word for “heavy”; one entry also records “important.” The surrounding words and language settle which reading fits.
Cuneiform writing is first attested at Uruk around 3500–3200 BCE, in administrative records. Scribes pressed reed styluses into clay to make wedge marks. The sign’s form varied across periods, regions, and scribal hands; 𒂂 identifies a sign, not one immutable drawing.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 𒂂 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Cuneiform block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𒂂\12082Why is 𒂂 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
