What 𒃮 means
It means “chest” or “breast” in Sumerian.
It writes gaba, “the body’s front.” Texts extend it to an edge, surface, frontier, or far riverbank; Akkadian uses it for irtu, “chest” or “breast.” In pairings, gaba ri means “confront”; gaba sig means “beat the breast.”
Written examples span Early Dynastic IIIa through the Hellenistic period. Early Dynastic IIIa was an early Mesopotamian period; Hellenistic refers to the centuries after Alexander’s conquests. This dates surviving use, not the sign’s invention.
An ancient writing sign; alone, it cannot fix one translation.
A bare sign leaves its sense open.
