What 𒇬 means
Usually a priestly office; in one entry, a plant.
In Sumerian, 𒇬 writes lagar, a title for a priestly office. The lexical record lists this priestly reading from Early Dynastic IIIa through Neo-Babylonian records; a separate entry gives the sign a plant reading. At Ebla in ancient Syria, scribes adapted the sign-list entry for a Semitic language, a language family that includes Arabic.
In temple and administrative texts, LAGAR names an office; a temple text places lagar priests among those carrying out blessings. When 𒇬 appears in a line, read the surrounding words and signs before choosing between the priestly and plant readings.
Which LAGAR forms are separate signs?
An added mark or sign gives each form a distinct identity.
𒇯 is LAGAR GUNU, 𒇭 is LAGAR TIMES SHE, and 𒇮 is LAGAR TIMES SHE PLUS SUM. The sequence 𒉣𒇬 is NUN.LAGAR, catalogued as TÙR. These are separately named forms; only the final sequence contains 𒇬 as a component.
An archival cuneiform sign whose lexical reading depends on the surrounding text.
Do not use 𒇬 alone as a universal stand-in for “priest”; its lexical record also has a plant reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𒇬 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Cuneiform block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
