egyptian hieroglyph e036

Egyptian Hieroglyph E036

252/1072

E36 is the seated-baboon hieroglyph associated with Thoth, but it can also mark a divine or animal idea or stand for words such as “say” and “beautiful.” In a modern message, treat it as an Egyptian or Thoth reference, not a translated sentence.

What 𓃻 means

𓃻 is a seated-baboon sign whose job depends on its neighbors. In Egyptian hieroglyphic writing, a classifier marked a word's category—such as an animal or deity—without spelling its sounds. Sign lists also record this sign as a logogram, a sign standing for a whole word: Thoth, “say,” or “beautiful.” Nearby writing tells you which function fits.

Baboon figures appear in temple deposits from the Predynastic and Early Dynastic periods, though their earliest meanings are uncertain. In the Late and Roman periods, the seated baboon is associated with Thoth; other baboon scenes could show sacred animals, a deity called Hapi, or baboons greeting the sun.

What does 𓃻 mean when someone sends it?

With no surrounding clue, treat it as an Egyptian reference and ask. A lone 𓃻 cannot settle whether the sender means the animal, Thoth, or an ancient-writing theme.

With Thoth, writing, or moon imagery, a Thoth reference is plausible. Inside a quoted inscription or lesson, it may simply be part of a historical spelling.

Why does 𓃻 sometimes render as a box?

A blank box usually means the active font cannot draw 𓃻. Software needs a font with Egyptian hieroglyph support to display it; the character itself may still be intact.

Ancient Egyptian religious writing; in a modern chat, it reads as an Egyptian or Thoth reference.

Do not translate one isolated sign as a whole sentence.

An Egyptian or Thoth reference is a sensible guess; ask what the sender means.

Why do some references call 𓃻 Thoth and others call it wpt?

Both descriptions can fit: Unicode 17.0 gives wpt as a divine-monkey classifier, while Egyptian sign lists also record 𓃻 as a logogram for Thoth, “say,” or “beautiful.” The neighboring signs determine which role is in play.
