What ⴧ means
ⴧ is the Nuskhuri letter Yn, used for a central vowel.
Nuskhuri is a historical Georgian script. “Small” marks its lowercase role in the Khutsuri pairing with Asomtavruli capitals; it does not mean this is a lowercase form of modern Mkhedruli. In Svan and Mingrelian spelling, Yn marks a neutral central vowel, often called schwa—a vowel made with the mouth relaxed. The language and word supply its exact reading.
Nuskhuri developed from Asomtavruli as scribes adopted a quicker manuscript style. Khutsuri paired the two forms, mainly in religious writing. The earliest known Nuskhuri inscription appears in the Sinai Homiliary, a religious manuscript dated 864. Modern Georgian uses Mkhedruli; Svan and Mingrelian spelling also has the related modern Mkhedruli letter ჷ.
Why does ⴧ show as a box?
A box means the selected font cannot draw this letter.
As of 2026, display support depends on the selected typeface and fallback: a font without Nuskhuri coverage shows a missing-glyph box. A typeface with Nuskhuri coverage is needed to display the letter.
Historical and specialist: it points to Nuskhuri or Svan and Mingrelian language material; modern Georgian uses Mkhedruli.
Alone, ⴧ is one letter, not a complete word.

Questions people ask
1Why does ⴧ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
