What 𐍀 means
It marks the p sound in Gothic words.
Gothic was the historical language of the Goths. If 𐍀 arrives alone, the surrounding conversation must supply any message beyond the letter.
Why was the Gothic alphabet created?
For a Bible translation in the fourth century.
The work was associated with Wulfila, a Gothic bishop. The Codex Argenteus, a Gospel book copied in the early sixth century, preserves Gothic Bible text. Use of the script faded by the mid-sixth century. Ninth-century scribes copied alphabet lists with pronunciation notes for learners. From the eighteenth century onward, editors mainly studied surviving texts as evidence for the language.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐍀 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
