What ⎽ means
The number identifies the line’s height inside a character space. A terminal is a screen-and-keyboard device for working with a computer. Its text display gives each character a fixed rectangular space, or cell. This drawing set uses horizontal strokes at positions numbered 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 from top to bottom; ⎽ is the lowest.
These strokes let text-based displays reproduce simple graphics at different heights. Repeating ⎽ can make a low horizontal rule or a bottom edge. It is a separate character, not formatting that underlines nearby text. Its exact height and how well repeated strokes join depend on the font.
A technical drawing character with no built-in conversational tone.
