What 𐘛 means
It has no accepted reading or translation. A028B identifies a Linear A sign; it is not a word whose meaning has been recovered.
A comparison of the signs’ shapes proposes 𐘛 (A 28b) as a possible match for Linear B AB 52, written 𐀜. Linear B later adapted many Linear A signs to write Mycenaean Greek, an early form of Greek. A shape match does not prove a sign kept the same sound or meaning.
Where did Linear A develop?
It developed on Crete within a wider Aegean tradition. Linear A is attested around 1800–1450 BCE, mainly on Crete and more sporadically on Aegean islands, mainland Greece, and in Asia Minor.
Linear A overlapped for a time with Cretan Hieroglyphic, another Cretan script. A study comparing the scripts’ forms describes Linear A as a substantial adaptation of a shared Cretan model, not a one-off invention attributed to a named person.
What was Linear A used for?
It chiefly recorded administration. Clay tablets, small round clay pieces, and clay pieces stamped with seals served palace administration, especially economic transactions.
Inscriptions on stone, metal, and painted vessels also appear in non-administrative settings, often for religious or practical uses. These surviving contexts show how the script was used; they do not tell us which role 𐘛 had.
A historical-script reference, not a decoded word in ordinary modern prose.
Do not assign it Linear B AB 52’s value; the proposed match is uncertain.

2Is A028B the same as Linear B AB 52?
No. 𐘛 has been proposed as a possible shape match to 𐀜, Linear B AB 52, but the link is uncertain and does not establish the Linear A sign’s sound or meaning.
Why does 𐘛 show as a box?
The selected font may not contain Linear A glyphs. Choose a font that supports the script; otherwise, an app may show a box where the sign should appear.
