What 𐂗 means
Use “unidentified container or commodity” as the cautious gloss.
B132 is a modern catalog label, not a confirmed ancient name for the object. A honey-container reading has been proposed when a phonetic sign accompanies it; the ideogram alone does not identify honey.
Why did Linear B use ideograms?
Ideograms let scribes mark goods without spelling each one out.
Linear B was used on Crete and the Greek mainland from the sixteenth to thirteenth centuries BCE. Its administrative tablets record people, animals, plants, commodities, income, and expenditure.
An ideogram sat beside a quantity or measure to show what was being counted. B132 belongs to that record-keeping system.
How does Linear B connect to earlier Cretan scripts?
Linear B developed from earlier Cretan writing, especially Linear A.
The connection is historical, not just visual. Many of Linear A’s signs for objects are absent in Linear B, which also has added or replacement signs. That connects the writing systems, but does not identify B132’s exact ancestor.
In a chat, it reads as a rare script reference; add words when the recipient needs a clear explanation.
Don’t call it “honey” from the glyph alone.

1Why does 𐂗 show as a box?
The font in use may not contain a Linear B glyph. A fallback font can show an empty box or replacement mark even though the text still contains the character.
