What 𐂢 means
B153 identifies the catalog entry, not the object.
An ideogram is a sign used to stand for something in a record. Linear B ideograms appeared alongside syllabic signs (signs for syllables) and quantities, so nearby writing shaped how a tablet’s reader understood them.
How did Linear B become a palace script?
Linear B was adapted from an earlier script called Linear A.
The oldest group of Linear B texts comes from Knossos’s Room of Chariot Tablets, dated to the beginning of the 14th century BCE or, in some datings, the end of the 15th century BCE. Palace records tracked commodities, entries and exits, workers, and transactions. That date belongs to a group of tablets, not the invention of every sign in the script.
Specialist and archival; a reader unfamiliar with Linear B may see only an unexplained glyph if it is sent alone.
Don’t identify an object from the drawing alone.
