linear b syllable b014 do

Linear B syllable do

𐀈 is the Linear B sign for one syllable, transcribed as do. The script survives chiefly in Bronze Age palace accounts. Sent alone today, it identifies a syllable, not the sender’s reason.

What 𐀈 means

It writes a sound, not an object name. In scholarly transliteration—a Latin-letter rendering of sign values—do means the consonant d followed by vowel o in one spoken beat. Linear B signs spell words syllable by syllable.

Linear B adapted signs from the earlier Minoan script Linear A to write Mycenaean Greek, an early form of Greek. By 2026, the earliest known tablet group is from Knossos. Surviving records span roughly 1450–1150 BCE and mostly document palace administration on clay.

Why does 𐀈 show as a box?

It can be a missing-glyph fallback: the display font lacks 𐀈, so a box stands in for the unavailable character, not another Linear B sign.
