What 𐍢 means
The t sound, as in English “top.”
Tai belongs to Anbur, a Komi alphabet devised in the 14th century by Stefan of Perm, a Christian missionary, to translate church and Bible texts into Komi, a language spoken in northeast Russia. Greek and Cyrillic models shaped the alphabet; some accounts also trace its letter shapes to Komi tamga, traditional religious signs, though that influence is disputed.
Why did Russian scribes use it as a code?
Most Russian readers could not read it.
Surviving icon inscriptions and manuscripts begin in the 15th century. Russian scribes used Old Permic to hide Russian notes from readers who could not read the script. Cyrillic largely replaced it for Komi by the late 17th century. In 2019, Old Permic letters appeared as decoration on panels, books, souvenirs and heraldic items in the Perm region.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐍢 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
