What 𐏀 means
It marks a sound, not a word. In Old Persian cuneiform, 𐏀 contributes the voiced z sound, like the first sound in “zoo”; za is the modern scholarly spelling used to label the sign. The word carries the meaning.
The origin of Old Persian cuneiform is debated, but its earliest securely attested inscription is at Bīsotūn. Commissioned by Darius, this monumental rock inscription presents the same royal account in Old Persian, Elamite and Babylonian. The script served formal royal display.
Old Persian cuneiform uses wedge-shaped strokes like Mesopotamian cuneiform but is a distinct, compact writing system. Later Iranian writing followed Aramaic-derived traditions, so this sign did not simply continue into those scripts. If 𐏀 appears as a blank box, the font may not cover it.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐏀 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
