What 𐼑 means
It writes the “s” sound in the Sogdian language.
Old Sogdian covers related Central Asian writing systems from the third to sixth centuries CE. Evidence includes inscriptions at Kultobe in modern Kazakhstan and in the Upper Indus area of present-day Pakistan, plus coins and vessels around Tashkent in Uzbekistan. The Ancient Letters—private business letters found at Dunhuang in China—are the earliest attested Sogdian manuscripts and date to the early fourth century.
The alphabet drew on Aramaic. Later Sogdian appears in secular records and Buddhist, Manichaean, and Christian texts; Sogdian writing gave rise to Old Uyghur and, through it, Mongolian scripts. In Old Uyghur, samekh and shin could share a base form: the unmarked form wrote samekh, while two dots below marked shin.
What does it mean when someone sends 𐼑?
It points to Old Sogdian script or text. In a modern message, read it as a reference to Old Sogdian writing, a transcription, or font support; the character alone does not say more.
Specialist and historical; using it points to Old Sogdian text or script work.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𐼑 appear as a box?
The text is still 𐼑, but your active font may lack an Old Sogdian glyph. A font with support for the script can display the letter; the box is a rendering problem, not a different character.
