It closes the right side of a mathematical pair of wiggly fences.
The matching ⧘ opens on the left. A 2001 proposal for added mathematical symbols included both fences among characters intended to help MathML, a web format for mathematical notation, represent older symbol sets from ISO, an international standards organization.
