What 𐑪 means
It marks the vowel you hear in British English “cot” and “on.”
“On” is its keyword name: it cues the sound; 𐑪 writes only the vowel.
Some western U.S. accents pronounce “cot” and “caught” alike.
Why did Shaw fund a new alphabet?
To bring English spelling closer to speech.
Playwright George Bernard Shaw left money in his will to fund a design contest.
Kingsley Read was experimenting with alphabets by the early 1940s; his final Shavian design was complete by 1960. Its first publication paired it with Shaw’s play Androcles and the Lion in 1962. The letters were newly designed, not reshaped Roman forms.

1Why does 𐑪 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
