What ≽ means
It says a succeeds b, with equality allowed. The author defines the order being used: it might compare rankings, preferences, or positions in a sequence. In a preference order, a ≽ b means a is at least as preferred as b; the sign alone does not say what is being ordered.
The strict companion ≻ rules out equality. ≺ and ≼ are the corresponding precedes relations in the reverse direction.
How do I type ≽ in LaTeX or HTML?
LaTeX uses \succcurlyeq; HTML accepts ≽ or ≽. Both select this curved-equality form.
Some math editors map \succeq to ⪰ instead. In an editor's symbol list, search for “succeeds or equal” and check the preview. If the glyph appears as a box or a different shape, the font may lack it or substitute a fallback.
