What means
No: marks a break; it does not create one. Software needs a real line break to start a new line.
Control pictures predate Unicode. In November 1968, the first ECMA-17 standard described pictorial and alphanumeric forms for nonprinting controls; was encoded in Unicode in 1993.
Fonts and software may draw them differently. In code review, can expose a hidden line ending; it marks the boundary, not the stored break.

\n Code writes a newline as the two-character escape \n; is a single visible picture of it.

4Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
