What ⏎ means
It marks Return: start a new line or confirm an entry.
The name comes from typewriters: the carriage, which held the paper, moved back to the margin as the paper advanced. ⏎ is the visible cue for that action, not the invisible control character some text systems use to represent a carriage return.
Why can Return behave like Enter?
The focused field decides what the key does.
In an editor, it can start a new line; in a dialog or command box, it can submit the entry instead. Some keyboards label the key Return and others Enter. The glyph marks the key or action; it is not inserted as the carriage-return control character.
